What are those strange pink bubble gum wads near the bottom of the trees just above the waterline? They are Apple snail egg clutches and they can be found easily through out swamps and sloughs. Released into our water systems in the 1980’s most likely from someones aquarium tank, the population of large fresh water snails began to rise in 2010. Although they are a treat to Snail Kites this non native species can over eat the vegetation meant to filter phosphorus out of our waters.
